Star Student December 2022: Melissa Scott

Personal Tutor: Jade

I started my level three accountancy apprenticeship with AAT in September 2021, after first starting work for my employer in 2016 as a receptionist. I was apprehensive when I first started my apprenticeship because I had worked in reception for a long time but wanted to show that I could excel in the accounts side. Accountancy wasn’t something I ever thought I’d be doing when I left school, even now the thought of doing maths makes me feel uneasy!

However, everyone at Accountancy Learning has been so helpful and friendly throughout and the lessons provided on Moodle have been invaluable when preparing for exams as they include lots of practice questions and assessments. If something doesn’t make sense, my tutor Jade has always been there to break down the answer for me – even if I don’t understand the first time! I’m really proud of my exam results and now await my level three synoptic result. If all goes well, I’m hoping to begin level four in the new year.

Personal Tutor comments:

Reflecting on Melissa’s journey so far really does put a smile on my face. Having transferred departments, Melissa was incredibly enthusiastic (albeit nervous) to get started with her apprenticeship programme and there’s been no holding her back!

She is well on track to achieve a distinction in her AAT Level 3 in Accounting and has been an absolute pleasure to support, though I can’t take too much credit there as she’s very innovative and self-motivated. Not only is Melissa a very intelligent young lady, but she is also incredibly professional and personable.
