How am I kept informed of my apprentice’s progress?

At the start of the apprenticeship, your training provider/college will agree on a programme of regular contact with you. This can be adapted during the apprenticeship if necessary. There is a funding requirement for formal progress reviews between you, the training provider and the apprentice every 12 weeks, however, many providers will do this more frequently.

Some providers will be able to give you access to their online platforms so you can monitor apprentice progress 24×7. However, we tend to find that employers don’t find the time to access these routinely – they prefer direct contact with the training provider.

The regular progress reviews referred to above will be with the apprentice’s line manager. For those larger employers, where this line manager is different to the Training Partner/Manager (who is normally involved with the “sign-up” at the start of the apprenticeship, it is important that the Training Manager liaises with their line managers to ensure that both parties are kept fully informed and are equally engaged with the apprenticeship programme. The Training Manager may well have set out their “Intent” for what they want the apprenticeship programme to achieve. It is important that this is communicated to line managers, who will be responsible for the day to day supervision of the apprentice and planning the development of their work experience. Line managers should be given sufficient time to devote to their training management role.

If at any stage you want feedback on your apprentice’s progress, ask! The Training Provider will be glad of your interest.
