After graduating with a degree in Political Science in 1979, I joined Deloitte Haskins & Sells as a trainee, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1982. (Yes, I know – I am nearly as old as Simon).
I have spent most of my career in practice, picking up various specialisms along the way – tax, VAT and strategic planning being amongst them – although most of these were gained in my attempt to avoid doing audit. In 2016, I accepted an invitation from an expanding firm of Chartered Surveyors based in London to become their CEO. Having spent six enjoyable and challenging years in this position I recently stood down from the role but have stayed on in the capacity as part-time Financial Director.
Outside of work, when not fighting a losing battle with my large garden, I play guitar and paint with watercolours.
My Motto:
Good decisions come from experience. Experience comes from bad decisions.
