New Apprentices hired recently?

New apprentices hired before 1.4.21? Please read this urgently!

Time is running out for you to claim the incentive payments for new apprentices hired between 1st August 2020 and 31st March 2021. Eligible employers have until 31 May 2021 to apply for these incentive payments.

The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) is currently reminding all apprenticeship employers of this deadline.

Details of the apprentice wage subsidy payments

  • Employers with apprentices who have a contract of employment start date between 1 August 2020 and 31 March 2021 and who also have a practical period (training) start date between 1 August 2020 and 31 May 2021 are eligible for an incentive payment.
  • For new apprentices aged 16 to 24, employers will receive £2,000.
  • For new apprentices aged 25 and over, employers will receive £1,500.
  • Employers must apply for these incentives by the end of 31 May 2021.

How to apply

Employers can apply for the incentive payment via the Finances section in their apprenticeship service account. For a walk-through of the process, employers can watch the ESFA support video.

Reminder: steps to take before you apply

There are 6 steps employers need to have completed before they apply for an incentive payment for hiring a new apprentice:

  1. They need to have registered an account on the apprenticeship service.
  2. If they do not pay the apprenticeship levy, they need to have reserved funds in their apprenticeship service account.
  3. They need to have recruited an apprentice.
  4. They need to have added their apprentice to their apprenticeship service account.
  5. They need to have agreed a start date for apprenticeship training to begin with their training provider.
  6. They need to have accepted the latest version of the ESFA employer agreement.

Incentive payments for apprentices who join organisations from 1 April 2021

The government has recently increased the incentive payments for hiring new apprentices. Employers could now receive £3,000 for new apprentices of any age who join their organisation from 1 April 2021 to 30 September 2021. In addition, employers enrolling apprentices aged between 16-18 years of age can also access an additional £1,000 in incentives.

Delivering quality apprenticeship training

Once your apprentice is on board with us, you and they can expect first class apprenticeship training and support. We provide a blended programme of learning. Our Level 2 materials comprise on-line interactive presentations with voice-overs and lots of practice activities. At Levels 3 and 4 we introduce more traditional study manuals alongside the on-line materials.

For Level 2, 3 and 4 apprentices based in the south west, they have the option to attend drop-in tutor led sessions at one of our training centres in Taunton, Exeter, Plymouth or Falmouth. We also provide weekly sessions, on-line, via Microsoft Teams. These programmes are run on a Roll-on-Roll-off basis so that apprentices can start their programme at any time of the year.

And at level 7, the ACA apprenticeship, we offer a mix of online study with face-to-face lessons and revisions sessions conducted from our Exeter training centre.
